Manitou Springs project

A contractor is striping the Manitou Avenue pavement between the intersection with Park Avenue and the Serpentine Roundabout on Thursday, July 28, and Friday, July 29. This is part of the MAPS — Manitou Avenue, Park Avenue to Serpentine — project.

The work will not have major traffic impacts, but on-street parking will be unavailable in the construction zone 7 a.m.-5 p.m. those days. Any residents who normally park on the street can use the Smischny lot during construction activities.

Work continues on the Foothills Trail near Gateway Road at Garden of the Gods, which will be realigned to utilize the new underpass at the park entrance.

The contractor is grading the final trail alignment and preparing for concrete paving. The trail is anticipated to open in early August.

The main artery between the Westside and Garden of the Gods Road, 30th Street, is closed in both directions between Gateway Road and Fontanero Street through early summer 2023. Access to Garden of the Gods Park, including the Visitor & Nature Center, will be maintained from Garden of the Gods Road.

The detour directs all traffic to use Centennial Boulevard. Park and visitor center traffic can enter 30th Street from Garden of the Gods Road.

Water Street and Westmoor Drive are closed at 30th Street, but 31st Street will remain open for access to the Pleasant Valley neighborhood.

Wildcat Construction recently installed a new storm sewer system on Water Street between 30th Street and the canal at 31st Street. Crews are completing finishing work, which includes asphalt paving.

After paving is complete, Water Street will remain closed east of the Valley Swim Club entrance, 1111 N. 31st St., while 30th Street reconstruction is underway.

General work hours are 7 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays, with occasional extended hours as needed. Flaggers will assist with traffic control when necessary.
