June 6

Manitou Springs Police Department personnel found a wallet and secured it for safekeeping.

June 7

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue, but it fled the scene. They terminated the pursuit for safety reasons but, while investigating, were able to identify the driver. A warrant is being sought for the suspect’s arrest.

A juvenile was involved in a theft in the 400 block of El Monte Place.

June 8

At 0030 hours, MSPD stopped a vehicle in the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue. The driver was found to be under the influence and was arrested and cited for DUI.

Officers contacted a transient man for illegally camping in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. The suspect was wanted on a Teller County misdemeanor warrant, so he was arrested.

MSPD was called to a business in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue regarding a customer attempting to pay with a counterfeit $20 bill. Officers confiscated the bill for destruction.

A drunken person was reported in the 600 block of Manitou Avenue. When officers responded, they contacted a man; after an on-scene investigation, they arrested him for criminal mischief and domestic violence.

June 9

Officers responded to the 100 block of Manitou Avenue for a reported dog bite. They contacted the reporting party, who did not have a dog bite. Responders had contacted the person four times in the previous 24 hours for the same complaint. The person was cited for false reporting to authorities and released.

MSPD officers were on foot patrol downtown when they found a man sleeping in his vehicle in a Cañon Avenue parking lot. He was discovered to be wanted on multiple local misdemeanor warrants and was transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

In the area of El Paso Boulevard and Washington Avenue, officers observed a man known to have a local misdemeanor warrant. They were able to locate him and he was booked into CJC on the warrant.

June 10

Manitou officers located a man sleeping on a bench in the sun near Oak Place and Manitou Avenue. Concerned for his well-being, they contacted him and learned he had an out-of-county misdemeanor warrant. He was taken into custody.

Found property has been secured for safekeeping.

At 2145 hours, officers located a vehicle parked off the side of westbound U.S. Highway 24 that has been abandoned for more than a month. It was towed away, but MSPD has not been able to contact the owner.

June 11

At 1926 hours, MSPD responded to an attempt to locate a child missing from Colorado Springs. Officers were unable to locate the child.

A hit-and-run with property damage was reported in the 800 block of Crystal Park Road at 0100 hours. The suspect’s vehicle was later found and the driver was cited and released.

Officers responded to a traffic accident involving a car parked on Waltham Avenue.

MSPD investigated a traffic accident in the 800 block of Manitou Avenue. 

Officers stopped a vehicle without taillights in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. The driver was cited for multiple traffic offenses, including fictitious license plates.

COURT UPDATE

Former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, Sept. 1, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He was accused of sexually assaulting a student.

Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is scheduled for a motions hearing Tuesday, July 19. A pre-trial readiness conference is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4, and his jury trial is set to start Monday, Oct. 10.

Ashlynne Perez is due in court for a final hearing Friday, June 17. Her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6, 2021, outside a Manitou business.
