July 11

Manitou Springs Police officers recovered a stolen vehicle at a business in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue.

A vehicle struck a light pole in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue and MSPD responded at 1507 hours. No one was injured.

In the 3100 block of West Colorado Avenue, officers stopped a vehicle being operated without registration. They also found the driver had a restrained license. The driver was cited and the vehicle was impounded.

July 12

At 1348 hours, MSPD stopped a vehicle with fictitious license plates near the Columbia Road/West Colorado Avenue intersection. The plates were taking into evidence.

Officers stopped a vehicle on U.S. Highway 24, near Ridge Road, and found drug paraphernalia. They searched a passenger and located more than 5 grams of methamphetamine. She was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

July 13

While patrolling the 3100 block of West Colorado Avenue, MSPD stopped a vehicle that was being driven in an aggressive and dangerous manner. After contacting the driver, the officers began to suspect she was under the influence of alcohol. After roadside maneuvers, she was taken into custody and a chemical sample collected. The driver was found to be over the legal limit, and was cited and released.

At 1230 hours, an officer was notified that a license plate had been stolen in the 300 block of Santa Fe Place.

A firearm was found in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue and a Manitou officer took possession of it at 1430 hours.

July 14

MSPD responded to an accident on Highway 24 near Crystal Hills Boulevard. A driver had swerved to avoid a deer, but wasn’t injured. The guardrail was damaged.

While on routine patrol in the 1300 block of Manitou Avenue, officers located a man camping illegally. He was found to have two local misdemeanor warrants and was booked into CJC.

MSPD stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue and discovered the driver had a local felony warrant. The suspect was taken to CJC.

July 15

A person with a local misdemeanor warrant was contacted near West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road. The suspect was booked into CJC.

Officers contacted a woman near West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road and found she had multiple warrants. She was booked into CJC on charges of criminal trespass and obstructing police.

MSPD assisted the Manitou Springs Fire Department with a call to the 1300 block of Manitou Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a woman had overdosed on suspected fentanyl. Medical personnel resuscitated her on scene and she was transported to a local hospital.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue. The driver had multiple local misdemeanor warrants, and was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

A driver stopped in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue was found to be under the influence of alcohol and had multiple warrants, including for cruelty toward a child. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

July 16

While patrolling downtown, officers observed a man smoking marijuana in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. He was cited and released.

July 17

MSPD stopped a vehicle at Manitou Avenue and westbound Highway 24 for a lane violation. The male driver showed signs of being under the influence. After ensuring he was not having a medical emergency, the officers arrested him for multiple traffic offenses, including driving under the influence of drugs.

Officers responded to an assault in the 200 block of Elk Path. The suspect left the scene, but will be issued a summons for assault.

MSPD responded to a cold report of domestic violence in the 400 block of East Fountain Place. Neither person was arrested.

Officers were dispatched to check the welfare of a man sleeping behind the wheel of his vehicle, which was blocking the entrance to a business on Higginbotham Road. They learned the man had an out-of-county misdemeanor warrant and took him into custody.

COURT UPDATE

Former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt is scheduled to be sentenced in person on Thursday, Sept. 1, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He pled guilty to two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is scheduled for a pre-trial readiness conference on Tuesday, Oct. 4, and his jury trial is set to start Monday, Oct. 10.
