Aug. 1

At 0812 hours, Manitou Springs Police officers contacted a transient in the 600 block of Manitou Avenue for illegally camping. The suspect was a wanted felon and was arrested and transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Property was found and turned in at the police station; it was placed in safekeeping at 1143 hours.

Officers stopped a vehicle with fictitious plates in the Beckers Lane/El Paso Boulevard area. The driver was a habitual traffic offender and the vehicle was towed.

A Samsung phone was turned in at the police station after being found in the Hiawatha Gardens parking lot.

A wallet covered in green camouflage material was found in the MSPD lobby.

Aug. 2

While patrolling for illegal camps near westbound U.S. Highway 24 and Ridge Road, MSPD contacted a man with a local misdemeanor warrant. He was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

At 0724 hours, officers attempted to contact a wanted person in the 300 block of Ruxton Avenue. The suspect eluded MSPD, but eventually was captured and taken into custody on multiple charges.

A license plate was reported stolen in the 100 block of Manitou Place. No suspect information is available, but the details were entered into crime databases as stolen.

At 2033 hours, officers stopped a vehicle with fictitious license plates at the intersection of Highway 24 and West 31st Street. The driver was issued a summons and the vehicle was impounded.

MSPD cited a man for theft after witnessing him rush out of a store in the 3200 block of West Colorado Avenue. Officers contacted the store and verified the items were stolen. He was arrested on charges of possessing amphetamines and narcotic equipment, along with shoplifting.

Aug. 3

A suspect with active warrants provided false identifying information to officers in the 3500 block of West Colorado Avenue. The investigation is ongoing.

MSPD responded to a report of fraudulent checks in the 00 block of Cliff Road. Officers completed an initial report, but the investigation will be passed on to the local agency that has jurisdiction over where the checks were being deposited.

Aug. 4

Officers responded to a hit-and-run traffic accident in the 100 block of Deer Path Avenue. A parked vehicle was struck at an unknown time; there is no suspect information.

Someone reported being assaulted in the 400 block of Washington Avenue. The victim refused medical attention and a suspect was not located. The case is still being investigated.

A shots fired report came in from the area of West Colorado Avenue and Columbia Road. However, MSPD found no evidence of a shooting.

MSPD stopped a vehicle with a damaged/defective headlight in the 1200 block of Manitou Avenue. The officers observed an open alcohol container in the vehicle and investigated the driver for being under the influence. The suspect was arrested for DUI, cited and released.

Officers stopped a vehicle that was being driven carelessly on westbound Highway 24 exiting Manitou. After an investigation, the driver was arrested for DUI, and was cited and released.

Aug. 5

MSPD responded to an assault reported in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue, but the victim didn’t want to press charges.

Officers responded to a burglary report in the 100 block of Ruxton Avenue. The suspect was not found, but the incident has been documented.

Aug. 6

A cold theft was reported in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue; the suspect has not been found.

At 2119 hours, a hit-and-run accident occurred in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. There were no injuries, and the suspect vehicle has not been located.

Aug. 7

Officers stopped a vehicle in the 1900 block of West Colorado Avenue. The driver was found to have several local misdemeanor warrants, and was taken into custody and booked into CJC.

At 0946 hours, MSPD responded to a hit-and-run accident in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue.

Officers responded to a report of a suicide attempt in the 5600 block of Moosa Road in Chipita Park. An older woman intentionally consumed an excessive amount of sleeping pills and was transported to a hospital.
