Swimmers return to action at Mountain Vista

The Manitou Springs girls swim team went up against Class 5A and 4A teams at the Mountain Vista Invite and put up an admirable effort, finishing 12th out of 18 eligible teams. They were the second-highest 3A team in the standings, losing out to just St. Mary’s Academy.

Theron Heim had the Mustangs’ best overall finish of the day as she took 11th in the 100-yard backstroke. Summer Tenpas notched a couple of good finishes as she took 12th in the 100 backstroke and 13th in the 100 butterfly.

The Mustangs fared pretty well in the relay races, taking 11th in the 200 freestyle relay and 14th in the 200 medley relay.

This was a good way for the team to return from winter break. The girls will face another tough task this weekend when they travel to the Hornet Invite at Pueblo County. That meet will be a true measurement of where the team stands and what the expectations will be in less than a month, when the Mustangs compete at state.
